The Captain Co. · Southwest Florida
Harvest. Create. Conserve. Rooted in the Ocean. Driven by Purpose.
Rooted in the Ocean. Driven by Purpose.
Born from generations on Southwest Florida waters, The Captain Co. brings together maritime tradition, responsible harvest, handmade craft and thoughtful ideas for the future.

Our Philosophy
One family. A shared respect for the ocean.
The ocean provides extraordinary opportunities, and with them comes a responsibility to respect what we harvest. Captain Brett Low has lived by that principle on Southwest Florida waters for most of his life. His daughter, Marena Low, founded The Captain Co. to bring those values together.
“How much value can we responsibly create from one harvested fish before anything is considered waste?”
We are still exploring the answer. Harvesting always has an impact. This question guides how we harvest and how thoughtfully we use each catch.

Our mission
“If we choose to harvest from the ocean, it must be done humanely, sustainably, and honorably.”
This is the standard we work toward: care in how we harvest, respect for fishing rules and the ocean, and thoughtful use of each catch. Following the rules matters, but it does not make any harvest impact-free.
04 · The Journey of a Harvest
A harvest, thoughtfully used.
These are different ways we use, learn from and celebrate the harvest—not steps every catch follows. Most fish simply become dinner. We keep asking what else can be used responsibly.

Our People and Heritage
A father who knows the water. A daughter who gave it a name.
Captain Brett Low
USCG 100-Ton Master · Commercial spearfisher
Brett runs Free Spirit Adventures and has spent most of his life diving, spearfishing and running boats in Southwest Florida. The Japanese Gyotaku and claw jewelry come from his hands and his catch.
Marena Low
Founder, The Captain Co.
Marena saw that her father’s way of living on the water already held a set of ideas worth sharing. She founded The Captain Co. to bring them together and to explore where they could go next.
Our Impact and Future
What exists. What we are exploring. Where we hope to go.
Today
On the water and in the workshop
Free Spirit Adventures charters operate from Fort Myers Beach. Original Japanese Gyotaku and stone crab jewelry are listed in its online store.
Exploring
Learning before we develop
We are exploring whether suitable fish byproducts could be put to better use, with safety, sourcing and legal requirements considered before any product.
Looking ahead
Growing with care
We hope to build a small maritime company that shares knowledge of local fisheries and makes meaningful things from the harvest.
We do not claim zero waste or impact reductions we have not measured. Read about our impact
